Finland to spend $400m on wire fence on Russian border

According to a report by the Russian Satellite News Agency on March 2, the Finnish government is building a fence near the eastern border of Russia.
It is reported that the fence is expected to be as high as 3 meters. Among them, wire fences in key areas will be built before 2025. The fencing and supporting facilities cost approximately $404 million, making it one of the Finnish government's most expensive projects this year.

As early as 2022, the Finnish Border Guard has proposed building a fence on the country's border with Russia to prevent "unauthorized border crossings." But the scientific community has warned the move will hamper activities such as the movement of wildlife across the border.

According to the report, the construction of the fence in Finland is actually a "symbolic move" that will damage the interests of residents on the Finnish border who conduct transactions with Russia, thereby further destroying the mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries.
